Are imports really bad?

There is a constant and vociferous clamour by industry and government officials for restrictions on imports. The most noise is made not by you and me but by businessmen who stand to lose.

Consider an advertisement put out by a local subsidiary of a multinational corporation (MNC) which bears the title, “Stop! Think twice before buying ‘foreign’ products”. This advertisement goes on to warn us of the danger from imports.
